Rezvan Moghadam
Researcher in women's studies and women's rights activist
A researcher and activist for women’s rights, she is a founder of the One Million Signatures Campaign and the Stop Homosexual Killings Campaign. Her work focuses on documenting gender-based violence, combating discriminatory laws, and linking research to collective action.
Life and activities
Ravanam Moghadam’s activities combine education, research, and practical support for women. In the 1960s, she founded the «Cooperation and Vocational Training Fund»; a scheme to provide women with access to vocational training and loans that, with their repayment, provided support for other women. Teaching, life skills training, crisis management, and women’s leadership courses were other parts of this path.
Alongside participation in anti-discrimination campaigns, part of his research and activism focuses on documenting sexual and gender-based violence, particularly the so-called «nameousi» murders. He has continued these activities despite being detained, barred from teaching, and exiled. He emphasizes the link between women’s economic independence and the removal of legal and social barriers; barriers that, in his view, cannot be overcome by educating women alone.
